Checkering is an old and interesting art. I began checkering in 1988. I was trained at Kimber of Oregon and worked as a contract laborer for eight years. Prior to Kimber leaving the state, I was their head checkerer!
All of my patterns are drawn on freehand and with a straight edge to fit each stock that I am working on.
You can send me the pattern you prefer or leave it up to me. You may also request an information package and see about twenty different patterns. I can easily copy from your drawing, doodle, rubbing from another stock or photo. I can also create a pattern just to suit your stock.
Whether you are looking for something traditional or something with that special flare, I can come up with something tasteful and original just for you!
Usually I checker at 20 or 22 lines per inch. I can make it larger or smaller depending on the grade of wood. The higher grades of wood will allow for finer checkering.
Generally I checker borderless. A lot of the older style patterns called for an extra border that may be added at your request. These borders were originally used to hide "over-runs" so it is considered more professional to leave the checkering borderless.
